Revolutionary War History Projects

Today Daniel and Emily presented people they learned about from the Revolutionary War.

Daniel shared about John Adams, defender of the British soldiers in the Boston Massacre and 2nd President of the United States. (He also died the same day as Thomas Jefferson, on the 50 year anniversary of our country!)

Emily shared about Deborah Sampson, a girl who disguised herself as a man and served as a soldier in the War.

Rock City was Fantastic!

Our family visited Rock City, near Chattanooga. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it was a joy for all. We walked along twisting paved paths through naturally sculpted rock, ate lunch with a view of seven states, saw an underground Fairy Land (most enjoyed by Emily,) gritted our teeth while looking down some long drops (OK, that was just me,) and laughed and played for a day! There was also a climbing wall.

Standardized Testing

Daniel took his first standardized tests this week. He doesn't have to test until the 5th grade, but we knew it would be good practice and tell us a few things to target in school next year.

He loved it, just like I thought he might!

And Emily was jealous because she had to do "regular" school.

Perhaps I Rejoiced Too Soon?

About a year ago I rejoiced that the kid's laundry had gotten easier. Both were past the age of spilling things down the front of their shirts at every meal, and I was thrilled not to have to do all that spot treating and re-washing.

Well, now food spills have been replaced by mud and grass stains. From soccer practice, soccer games, or playing in the yard.

I'm glad they are enjoying themselves, I'm glad that I don't make them stop because they get dirty, but I do not enjoy the laundry part of it!

Wisk detergent is still my favorite stain remover. But fels-naptha will get about anything out!
