Emily is Hooked...
... by a fishhook while fishing with friends. At first I thought it was just caught in her hair, but the sight of the hook in her ear, with the dead worm, lure, and line was gross! Good news is that it there aren't many blood vessels in the that part of the ear so it didn't bleed much. We got wire cutters to clip off the worm, but I could not get it out either way because the barb was stuck in there. I was hurting Emily so much I knew I couldn't do it myself. She was upset about going to the E.R. as she'd never been.
Our friend's father-in-law was kind enough to drive us so I could sit in the back of the car with Emily. Daniel stayed behind with friends and subsequently caught six fish (see below) and quite enjoyed himself!
I felt very covered by prayer because I knew the friends left behind were praying for us. It brought me great peace.
The E. R. was great. Friendly people, doctor with an excellent bedside manner, room with a TV. Emily clutched the remote and watched shows. She was very brave. The numbing shots worked great, and the doc got it out with only a small cut around the barb. We kept the hook and hospital arm band as souvenirs.
We went back to the pond and played an hour. Then we got Sonic drinks and pizza for dinner. I helped Emily bathe, and let her sleep with me, but told her the special treatment was over in the morning!

Wild Kingdom: Raccoons
This morning Rosie sniffed out the lair of our resident raccoon family for the first time. I didn't think much of it.

This afternoon we looked out the window to see the mother peeking out very cautiously. After watching her go in and out, in and out, we realized that she was trying to coax her kits to follow her, but they weren't cooperating.

She finally carried one out and wandered off into the woods with it. We waited anxiously for her to come back for the rest, wondering what other safe spot she had in mind for the new den. She came back around 10 minutes later and carried out another kit. Came back again, pulled out one, and another followed her. I guess the last one didn't want to be left by him/herself and that was enough to make him/her come along!
I got some neat photos and video. We will miss watching them come out in the evenings. :(

Playing in our Creek
Before (dry):
Today we walked down to the creek to play. I had the kids wear old swimsuits and water shoes so they could go in as deep as they wanted and get as wet as their hearts desired. I hunted for arrowheads (no luck.) They trip to catch waterbugs, crayfish, and fish and collected all sorts of treasures.
After (wet):

Mother's Day
Breakfast in bed, thoughtful gifts, a six mile family bike ride, swinging on the porch swing, and a nice dinner almost on the table.... I have been blessed!

Field Day Fun
The Field Day we've been to the last two years is on the last day of our current co-op, so we couldn't participate. As the Field Trip Coordinator for our co-op, I decided to just plan our own Field Day, and today was the day!
We had to change the location due to flooding, but the new location worked out just fine!
Daniel and Emily are in the blue shirts. I especially like the sack race action!
Back-to -back, the kids are by each other

At the end, with the car loaded!
